Off-Page’ Search Engine Optimisation Considered

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009
Executive SEO Training | Corporate SEO | Dallas SEO

In our previous article, we covered the basic theory of SEO and talked about ‘On Page’ factors. Off-Page is much more critical though. Think of it as appointing votes. If another site places a link to your site then that site has given you a vote of confidence. It’s as if they’re promoting the value of the site.

The link to your site has two main parts. The full web address of the actual page being pointed to. And second, the ‘anchor text’ or ‘keyword phrase’ that is highlighted on the web-page for you to click. That page can then be seen as receiving one ‘vote’. So, a tick to move the site higher up the listings for that phrase.

It always works in this way. The page being targeted and the Anchor Text are permanently linked to each other. You can’t create a vote for a page without some highlighted anchor text. The anchor text notifies the Search Engine about the page’s content - and thus what search term it should come under. To re-iterate: Your website’s search terms are totally controlled by its anchor texts.

Thus you’ll understand why highlighting ‘Click Here…’ creates no value in SEO terms. The phrase ‘CLICK Here’ is what we’ve voted for! Who thinks of typing in ‘CLICK HERE’ when they’re doing a search? There isn’t anybody.

That’s the reason the anchor text must be right. Since it stands for all the terms you want to be searched for. Interestingly, you’ll see the Adobe Reader download site in pole position for ‘click here’. Do Adobe think ‘CLICK HERE’ is an important term? Heck No! But they’re up at the top because the phrase “CLICK HERE to Download Adobe reader” features on so many websites.

To summarise, Search Engines cast a vote for a page via the anchor text phrase. It is the logical thing to do. The process attempts to use human logic for looking and searching. In fact, the actual subject matter of your page could be quite different. As long as the anchor texts that are directed at you say ‘red cars’ - that is what you will rank for. It’s undeniable!

Inevitably there are other things to consider… The Search Engines also take into account a pages’ title and its wording. And many more factors too. They’ll look, for example at how appropriate the relevancy is of the websites linking to yours.

The crux of it all is though that a mass of back links solves all the problems! And these need to be from as many different sites as possible - with the correct phrases used as anchor text. The ‘authority’ of a site also plays a major part: Receiving a link from a top site like Microsoft is much more valuable than one from a start-up site.

There’s quite an art to choosing the right keyword phrases. Make sure you do sufficient research - it’s not a case of guesswork! The key really though is - Which words do potential clients ‘Google’ when they’re searching for the things you supply? Because that’s exactly what your keywords and anchor text should be.

Interesting answers often come up when you do your researches and tests. As a matter of fact, the phrases are very often not at all what you’d expect. Human beings are odd creatures and we all have our own ideas of how to find what we want. You may think to Google “quality mattresses” if you’re hoping to sleep better. While someone else might automatically think to say ‘I need more sleep’.

Successful on-line marketing is about more than trusting vague hunches. It can’t be over-estimated how important it is to investigate, measure and test all the phrases to be used. They are absolutely key to the volume of enquiries and sales you can make via the web. Think of a listing you may have in a regional telephone directory. You’re not going to get any enquiries for Car Repairs if you’re indexed as a Hairdresser! Successful SEO is the result of meticulous analysis of keyword research.

Promote Web Site -Secrets Revealed

Saturday, August 15th, 2009
Executive SEO Training | Corporate SEO | Dallas SEO

Posting on forums, if used properly, can be an excellent way to get your name “out there”, and ultimately to build up a heap of traffic to your website.Note the emphasis on the words “if used properly”.

Good, relevant and useful content is the key here.

Let’s cut to the chase, if you expect to join a forum and to post a huge advertisement, and then sit back and wait for the massive amount of web traffic to hit your web site, then your probably going to be disappointed (not to mention waiting for a long time for it to happen).

You don’t spam people with email (hopefully!) and spamming a forum is just as bad (effectively posting a huge advertisement is spam) and will more often than not get you banned from the forum, and your post will get deleted, not to mention you will quickly get a reputation as a forum spammer.

Even though the Internet is a huge place, you might be surprised on just how fast word can get around for things like this. Don’t risk it.

Not spamming is even more important if your trying to become an expert in your niche area, because chances are the forum you just got banned from was a major one for your niche market if you had done your research properly.

So what is the best way to use a forum to get value out of it?

Firstly, find relevant forums for your niche market, and take the time to read the rules generally of the forum, and specifically the rules as they relate to forums posts.

To find forums use the search engine and look for forums and your keyword phrases.

e.g. Forums for car wholesalers, search for forum car wholesalers.

Some forums will not allow you to post any form of blatant advertisement, others may allow a signature block at the end of the post that can point to a website, with maybe a brief description of your site, others may not even allow that. Take the time to read up on just what is and isn’t allowed for each forum you sign up with.

Once you’ve done that, actually consider if you’re going to be able to add value to the forum by posting.

Do you have knowledge that can be used to help out other posters? Can you actually add decent content, that is not just along the lines of “Sounds like you need my affiliate-o-matic program, grab it from my website”.

Recognize that you should be able to reply to posts without doing selling of any kind (although hopefully you selected a forum that allowed a signature block in your posts, so that at the bottom of each of your fabulous relevant, and expert, rich in wisdom posts, there is also a link for people to reach you).

This signature should NOT be the focus of the post though; the focus of your posts is to actually help people by solving the particular problem or issue listed in the forum post.

When considering finding out more about traffic to my website; it pays to listen to professional and do as much research as you can.

You will be astounded how quickly you can build up yourself as an expert in the forum, which adds immense credibility and believability to you on the forum, meaning people will start coming to you for help!

The other huge bonus is that forum posts usually get picked up by the search engines so that over time your answers will get into the search engine results, and low and behold there is a link to your website in them!

Make sure your posts are in a forum that is relevant to your niche market. For example if you have answered questions in a gardening forum, and your signature at the bottom of each of your posts leads people to a sports site, you may be disappointed with the results.

In this case, lets assume your web site was sports related, you would have been far better off posting in a sports forum, but hopefully a sporting forum that is specific to the exact sports your website focuses on.

The search engines love relevancy, and you will find you will often actually lose points, and valuable rankings if you are just concentrating on getting large numbers of links, and not paying attention to using relevant forums to your niche market.

Remember the golden rule about one way links, a relevant one way link to your website from another site (including forums) is far, far more valuable if both sites have related content.

Make sure you look into posting of forums to get a rise in visitors to your site. This is a very easy way to get free traffic on your web site.

Site Traffic - A Users Approach

Saturday, August 15th, 2009
Executive SEO Training | Corporate SEO | Dallas SEO

There is one fundamental, but not very obvious fact about improving your business and advertising on line. The difference can really be compared with the difference between life and death. Here it is, getting on line you cannot be reactive in your promotions, you simply must be proactive. What I mean is that you cannot put up a site, sit back, relax and wait for it to produce your profits, as it would have been with outdoor adverts or TV ads. It won’t work this way.

So we have decided that we need to be proactive to get traffic to our site. It doesn’t matter how good our site looks and how much it has to offer, unless we send a steady stream of visitors to our site it just wont make us any money. It will look good yes, but we want it to earn for us as well.

Out of the hundreds of ways that you will hear about to help drive traffic to your site, one of the best ways is still one of the original methods that has been used for years. That is keyword marketing. It is simply a matter of finding the good keywords that people are actually using to find things related to your product or service. These keywords are what the search engines will use to send those streams of hungry buyers to your website.

If you do a basic search on the net yourself, you will find heaps of tools available that will help you find the good keyword phrases you need. The keywords can be long tail keywords or even primary keywords. By inserting these keywords into your site, the search engines can find them and help you get more site traffic.

Some companies offer spy ware programs that will let you scan a competitors site and find out what keywords they are using. These tools can be invaluable because they let you see which words are profitable keywords. Some site offer a monthly service for you to use and can be quite inexpensive.

Now that you have a good bunch of keywords to use on your website, you have to insert them into your site in such a way that when the crawlers and robots from the major search engines look at your site, they will like what they see.

What we should look at doing is to place our keywords in proper places on your site, such as Tags, Titles, Links, Description, etc. and maintain proper keyword density of between 4-7 percent. This way the crawlers will identify and rank your web site for you to get site traffic and start your on line journey to success.

So finding and inserting the right keywords is only one part of the battle in getting site traffic. But it is nonetheless an important part of being proactive in helping to send traffic to your site. A little time spent by you will be a wise investment.

Why is Adsense Essential?

Friday, August 14th, 2009
Executive SEO Training | Corporate SEO | Dallas SEO

Adsense is pretty much a work of genius if you think about it. It is easy to put a few lines of code on each page that you want the ads to be displayed on. Each ad is targeted for that page, so getting the click should not be overwhelmingly difficult. Each website publisher or owner that places these ads then gets a commission for just referring a related website, how simple is that?

Web site owners do not even need to track their income or clicks as google does it for them. Google will track your impressions, clicks and the code allows you to showcase the most relevant ads possible. This way your visitors, who are already on your site to learn about something very specific, will see ads that truly appeal to their wants and needs.

The first reason why Adsense is essential for content sites is because it already has come a long way in understanding the needs of publishers and webmasters. Together with its continuous progression is the appearance of more advanced system that allows full ad customization. Webmasters are given the chance to choose from many different types of text ad formats to better complement their website and fit their webpage layout.

The different formatting enables the site owners the possibility of more click through from visitors who may or may not be aware of what they are clicking on. It can also appeal to the people visiting thus make them take that next step of looking up what it is all about. This way the people behind the Adsense will get their content read and making profit in the process.

The second reason is the ability of the Adsense publishers to track not only how their sites are progressing but also the earnings based on the webmaster-defined channels. The recent improvements in the search engines gives webmasters the capability to monitor how their ads are performing using customizable reports that has the capacity to detail page impressions, clicks and click-through rates. Webmasters and publishers can now track specific ad formats, colors and pages within a website. Trends are also easily spotted.

With the real-time reporting at hand, the effectiveness of the changes made will be assessed quickly. There would be time to sort out the contents that people are making the most clicks on. The ever-changing demands would be met while generating cash for the webmasters and publishers. The more flexible tools are also allowing webmasters to group web pages by URL, domain, ad type or category, which will provide them some accurate insight on which pages, ads and domains are performing best.

The last and final reason is that the advertisers have realized the benefits associated having their ads served on targeted websites. Thus increasing the possibility that a prospective web surfer will have an interest in their product and services. All because of the content and its constant maintenance. As opposed to those who are no using Adsense in their sites, they are given the option of having other people do their content for them, giving them the benefit of having successful and money-generating web sites.

Adsense is all about targeted content, the more targeted your content is, the more target the search engines ads will be. There are some web masters and publishers who are focused more on their site contents and how best to maintain them rather than the cash that the ads will generate for them. This is the part where the effectiveness is working its best.

There was a time when people were not yet aware of the money to be achieved from advertisements. The cash generated only came into existence when the webmasters and publishers realized how they can make Adsense be that generator. In those days, the content were the most important factors that is taken quite seriously. It still is. With the allure of money, of course.

Internet Specialist - Three Reasons You Might Need One

Thursday, August 13th, 2009
Executive SEO Training | Corporate SEO | Dallas SEO

Remember the “olden” days of the internet when only people of high IQ’s were the only one using it and no one could ever imagine that people everywhere in the future would? It’s really hard to imagine what we were thinking back then. Nowadays people think they are an internet specialist when they put up a blog or website and they get traffic for non-competitive terms!

Think of the many ways that one can harness the power of the World-Wide-Web. It seems that when it comes to cyber space, there are no limitations or boundaries. Just think about it for a second, the majority of the world takes advantage of this technology in a variety of different ways. Whether signing up for an online bank account, grabbing a free email address, or merely just surfing the web, the internet continues to offer more and more.

Nowadays there are many people who even take their businesses online. Of course major corporations pull in gargantuan profits, but you would be surprised on how many people working from home rake in the cash. With simply a PC or Mac at your side you can accomplish virtually anything one desires. From simply creating your own website to internet marketing online, these are just examples of why it’s time to take advantage of cyberspace if you already haven’t. This is the contemporary vehicle to cash.

But hold on..as with the opportunities comes the pitfalls so don’t go screaming around town that you’re rich just yet! One has to educate themselves on the topic even if you plan to hire somebody to do the work for you. One can find a plethora of information freely on the web but be aware that are quite a few reasons you may need to seek the advice of a professional. The use of an internet specialist can probably help with this. Here are 3 good reasons you shouldn’t try this alone:

1. Educating Oneself On The Many Techniques

If you are new to this game, you’ll quickly learn there are many things to learn from putting up a website, setting up a merchant account to the ways of driving traffic to your new website including PPC (Pay Per Click), SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and social media. Even if you are experienced, you’ll recognize that each discipline has many varieties and techniques that one can implement. Which to choose? An internet specialist can quickly assess what works best for you and your situation.

2. Updating Oneself Constantly On The Latest And Greatest

As stated above, there are many things to consider when running an online business. Even if you have a mastery of many or all of what it takes to run a successful business, keeping updated on what’s new and how it can be implemented in your business could be a full time job. Again, an internet specialist would greatly assist in managing this for you.

3. Time

The most important reason of all. Time is the one thing that everyone in the world has equal share of. Do you think the wealthiest people in the world have extra time in their day? They just manage their time more efficiently and even if they could perform the task, why not just have an employee or an outsourced worker perform the task while you relax and enjoy your day. That’s the possibilities if you run your business efficiently.

Are you striving to expand your current business or is this the first time you’ve even thought of the idea of going online? Maybe it’s high time you considered the services of internet specialists to greatly improve your results. If anything, you understand it’s imperative to get your product and/or service seen by all….so what are you waiting for?

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009
Executive SEO Training | Corporate SEO | Dallas SEO

If you’ve been selling products on the internet for any length of time, then you’ve already heard of article marketing.

Article marketing, in its simplest form, is the process of writing high-quality and informative articles, that lend to your expert status on a particular subject. These articles are then distributed to several high-ranking article directories like ezinearticles.com, goarticles.com, articlesbase.com, and isnare.com, where you can include a brief html or text based author bio with links back to your website.

The links in the bio section send traffic back to your website, while at the same time, providing you with high-quality and authoritative backlinks from each of the article directory sites. Backlinks are the lifeblood that can increase your rankings in the search engines, and can also provide additional traffic from people clicking on the links in each of your articles.

However, you should always maximize your articles’ exposure by re-purposing the content in additional locations. Some of the most powerful methods include:

- Chopping each article into 2-3 blog posts to add on you own site’s blog. Schedule each to post 1-3 days apart.

- Combining multiple similar pieces of content into a special report, then selling or giving away that report as a lead generation tool on ebay, your own website, amazon.com, and other sites.

- Reading the article, out-loud, and recording your voice to make a short audiobook and/or podcast that can be disseminated to the various podcast directories like itunes, podcast alley, and others.

- Taking the audio version of the content, and adding stock or your own photos to make a slideshow video, which you can then submit to video directories like youtube, viddler.com, revver.com, and others.

- Combining the audio, video, and text versions of one or more content articles on a particular subject, and make a “home study course” that could then be sold at a premium price.

- Take one or more of your most popular articles and offer it for publication through your local newspapers and magazines.

- Take all the pieces of content for a given period of time (i.e. month, quarter, year) and package them into a book that you can sell on amazon.com, or offer as premium paid content for visitors to your website.

You can rest assured that you can increase your website’s exposure, and profits, by taking the above ideas and implementing them on each article that you write. The trick is to be consistent over time.
