It seems as if everyone has their own blog these days. Companies, music groups, individuals and even peoples pets are the subjects of any number of the millions of new blogs created each month so its no wonder why you might be interested in adding to the mix with your own commentary or point of view. With all the various easy-to-use blogging platforms like Wordpress and Moveable Type the creation of a unique blog has become an easy step for even the most novice internet user. The hard part in creating a blog comes when you’d like the general internet population to start reading your material. You need to create content that is not only interesting but also a reason to entice users to return again and again to see your site updates. The two biggest factors in blogging boil down to keywords and content. In order for people to not only find your blog on the internet but also understand what it’s all about in a brief ’site-scan’ you should focus on creating a set of keywords that will serve as the generalized theme or ‘topic’ that your website is about. These keywords will help your site if you properly incorporate them in blog posts, categories as well as by using them in HTML tags and potentially even the title of specific pages. Once you’ve determined what your blog will be focused on you will need to create content based on that keyword list you just made. Keep each post to a specific topic, as it will help with both onsite SEO not to mention will help your reader stay focused on the message you’re hoping to convey. Treat each post as a properly formatted email or letter, using new paragraphs for large segments or changes in tone. Including polls, images, video and links to similar content is an easy way to keep your content interesting and fresh. Facebook, Twitter and Myspace are just a few of the popular social networking sites that you can use for free to increase your new blogs exposure. They’ve managed to become hubs to millions of users who interact on a daily-basis with other members on just about every subject known to man. Not only that but there are new social networking sites sprouting up each day to serve as a meeting place for specific topics or groups. To expand your reach by using these sites, first create a public profile, remembering to add a link to your blog as your ‘homepage’ or ‘personal URL’ and then do a search for topics discussed in your blog. Once you’ve found users, groups or topics similar to your own, try to engage participating members in a discussion furthering the subject matter and if possible adding an eventual link back to your blog for them to continue the conversation (or to view similar media that you’ve posted to your blog). Don’t link-spam though, this is the act of hammering discussions or threads with links for self-promotion. The general rule of thumb is: If you can’t add something positive to the conversation, stay out of it. Another tactic to increase traffic to your blog is to get listed in the various blog directories that are available on the web. These directories can be found pretty easily by performing a search for blog directories + “subject-matter.” For instance i’d search for (removing the quotes though) “blogging directories + seo” for SEO related directories. Try to think outside the box on this one by going beyond electronic media. Apart from online marketing you can also go for offline marketing by way of newspapers, magazines, journals, yellow pages. This is another medium to increase traffic to your blog. Another tactic is to offer free downloads. This is another new and most popular thing which is found these days on almost every site. Put interesting software such as freeware, demo etc and let the visitors download them for free. Like this you can attract visitors and influence there curiosity to visit your blog for some interesting and new downloadable software’s. The big question most new bloggers ask is how other internet users will find their site. The primary way that most users will find their way to your blog is through search engines. Whether its Yahoo!, Google, Bing or any other search portal, they’ll find your site when they search for some of the keywords that you should be creating content about. For instance if a user was looking for articles on ‘blog seo’ and I have an article or post on that topic then there’s a good chance it will show up when searched for. These search engines will catalog your website content every time that you update or add new content. To speed up the time it takes for the search engines ’spiders’ to crawl your site you should ‘ping’ new pages after you’ve created them to alert search engines to the new content. If you’re using a blog hosted on wordpress.com, blog.com or similar sites then this will be taken care of for you. If not (or if you’d like to be double-sure that your new content is indexed) then you can use free online ping tools like Ping-O-Matic or the PingNinja. Each is pretty self-explanatory, you just enter in the URL of the new post or content, then hit the submit button. Learn more about website seo and use the free blog ping tool at PingNinja.com |

Monday, November 23rd, 2009What You Need To Know About Web 3.0
Friday, November 20th, 2009| Executive SEO Training | Corporate SEO | Dallas SEO |
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that the Web is largely centered around the concept of social media. People are connecting all over and using the Web to do so. This has been an obvious area of growth for the Internet and an area of opportunity. Many people are wondering what’s next. In recent months I have heard countless people talking about what’s next for the world wide web. The reality is that Web 3.0 is already here and this is evidenced by those websites who are taking user behavior into consideration when defining an online user experience. Web 3.0 is all about improving the experience of web site browsers and helping them make the right decisions quickly. Now that the Internet has expanded significantly and there are billions of pages of information, getting through that information effectively has become a challenge. What makes this concept of Web 3.0 so appealing is behavior data. The next version of the Internet all types of online behavior will be tracked closely. Everything from on-site behavior to purchase behavior like order size and frequency will be combined with preference to shape your online experience. The more data available the more predictive the experience can become. In addition to collecting real time information, Web 3.0 is flexible enough to allow online merchants to integrate user history - past purchases, preferences, and actions around promotions and other once in time events. This allows each online retailer or provider to create unique user profiles based on purchase history, learned preferences and individual behavior to drive personalized recommendations. Technology deployed in the Web 3.0 world is sophisticated and secure. This technology is used to track behavior and aggregate patterns of behavior over time. The more information collected the more accurate a personal profile can be, predicting your future browsing and purchasing behavior. This allows for a level of customization than can dramatically improve your online browsing experience and satisfaction. For me the issues isn’t about tracking the behavior, it’s more about how it’s used. For example, if I only buy jeans once every other year, and an online retailer knows my buying behaviors, I’ll be grateful to get less email on a daily basis. This level of intelligence can make the buying experience much more beneficial for the end user and ultimately more economical for the retailer. I know they’ll never pass the savings on to me but you never know. Web 3.0 is upon us. As web sites continue to collect and use more of your behavioral data, your online buying experience is going to change. One can argue if this change is for the better. However, I believe that it can dramatically improve your buying experience and improve the way retailers market products and services. Want to find out more about Web 3.0? Top 5 SEO Strategies Of All Time
Wednesday, September 16th, 2009| Executive SEO Training | Corporate SEO | Dallas SEO |
As someone who makes a living improving search engine rankings, I can tell you that there is a lot of bad information out there about SEO. What if I were to tell you that the road map for achieving top rankings was within your grasp? The holy grail of rankings is not imaginary. As is true with any major success, it leaves clues. Having had the opportunity to work with so many web sites, I’ve been able to witness first hand the value of different SEO techniques. Some appear to good to be true and often are. Others seem mundane but have an immediate impact on search engine rankings. I’m going to share the most effective techniques with you. The first SEO ranking factor that has proven effective time and again is making sure that all inbound links to your web site have keywords in their anchor text. By placing keyword in the anchor text of these links, you are directing search engines to your website and individuals search for a particular keyword. I know that you can’t always control what someone names a link to your web site, but where you can, make sure it includes your keywords. The second most important ranking factor is using keywords in your title tag and other meta tags. Meta tags still have an impact on your search rankings. Although the weight of meta tags may be minimal, they are effective in categorizing your page and identifying what search engines should expect to find when they spider web site pages. Make sure your tags are constructed properly and include you keywords. The third factor of search engine importance is link popularity. How many websites are linking to yours? More importantly, what is the value of those links? This answer is usually a function of Google Page Rank. Page rank is comprised of a large number of factors but essentially provides a weight to the value of each inbound link. The more links you have a greater value pointing to your web site, the higher your link popularity. The fourth ranking factor to consider is the variety of domains linking to your web site. If you have hundreds of inbound links from a single web site, they carry less weight than only a few inbound links from separate and distinct sites. The key here is that different sites are essentially placing their vote. Focus on diverse link building strategies among many different web sites. The fifth ranking factor is placing your keywords in your root domain. If you are unable to acquire a domain that has www.yourkeyword.com as the format, don’t despair. You can vary your domain by including words before or after your keyword. Short of being able to acquire such a domain, place your keywords using a subdomain structure or placing a folder on your root domain. This can have a positive impact on your overall rankings. Each of the five factors mentioned above are some of the most effective I have seen over more than a decade of online marketing. Focus on inbound links that are formatted properly, link popularity, and domains. By doing so you can dramatically improve the overall effectiveness of your search engine optimization efforts. Make Sure Your SEO Consultant Can Get The Job Done

Web site’s and blogs can only succeed if they receive adequate traffic. Through online marketing and promotion, you can build traffic to your web site. The best traffic however is that which comes organically. To improve your web site rankings, consider using a search engine optimization consultant. Hiring a SEO consultant can be a rewarding experience if you follow these simple guidelines. Once you’ve determined that achieving top rankings needs to be a priority, starting and SEO program is easy to do. Begin by using an experienced professional who can guide your efforts towards that activity that can generate the greatest return. SEOconsultants will help you to make the most of your optimization dollars and improve overall results. Making the most from your SEO consultant requires a number of considerations. I have found that the most productive engagements around optimization and SEO all have these same factors in common. By adhering to these principals, mutual expectations are set and each party has a clear understanding of what is being delivered by whom. The first step to having a productive consultant is finding a credible source. There are many people out there who claim to be search engine optimization experts but have nothing to show for it. Find a legitimate company, ask for references, or find someone who has a proven track record and is an authority on the topic. A good bet is to find someone who has achieved number one rankings for their website or the web sites of their clients. The second step is to mutually agree upon whats being delivered. Most clients feel that by paying a search engine optimization consultant a sum of money that their site is going to instantly rank number one on Google, Yahoo!, and Bing. I can tell you first hand that’s not the case. The purpose of a SEO consultant is to help you construct an effective strategy for the long term optimization of your web site. The last step in any SEO type of engagement is to work with your consultant to develop a team of designers, developers, and programmers who can implement optimization recommendations. The place that most companies fall short is on implementation. Even if the consultant makes incredible suggestions that you know will have a tremendous positive benefit on rankings, if they aren’t implemented, you will have wasted your money. The time to assemble your team is now. Improving web site rankings is an essential part of any online marketing program. To succeed, don’t waste time learning as you go. Rather, hire a search engine optimization consultant who can give you direction and show you specifically what you need to do to improve web site rankings. This saves time, money, and guarantees long term optimization. Find a credible consultant who has succeeded with other web sites and can meet your specific needs. Mutually agree on outcomes and you’re sure to get what you paid for. Michael Fleischner is an author and SEO consultant. Promoting Business with SEO

Just like everyone else, you probably are wondering how to get your website noticed! If you are a small business with big expectations, you probably had a website built and expected the orders to just roll in. You may have already tried some Pay Per Click advertising and possible even paid to be listed in some online directories. Most people online do not want to go through an online directory to find you. Most people searching for something go through a search engine such as, Google, Yahoo, or MSN Live. They type in a keywords or phrases describing what they want and the Search Engine automatically finds a list of websites, starting with what the it believes to be the most relevant results. It is these results, rather being found in the first group of them that drives traffic to your website. No matter what you have to offer the key to success online is to be found on the first page of these search results when someone is looking for what you have to offer. Those search engines are working 24-7-365 to find results for what people are searching. However, if you cant be found in the first few of those results, your neighbor could be looking for what you have to offer and youll never know. Things that you have used in the past for traditional business experience, are pretty much useless online. Before the internet, businesses might have spent thousands of dollars per month on Yellow page advertising. When the internet first went public that business had to be sure that those ads pointed to their website. After only a few years, most families don’t even know where their phone book is anymore. On your online store, you may have a few selections for a specific item. In your store you may display these items according to cost. The typical online shopper is not searching for every item you have to offer. They are searching for one brand and one style at every store that offers that one specific item. However, a local store owner is possibly complaining that he could typically get this specific item from his supplier, and it would not sell until he discounts it at the end of the season. However, this same item in a big city would have customers lining up, hoping to get a chance to buy this specific item as soon as it was delivered. By putting his inventory online, the small town store owner allows the people in the big city to find the items they want regardless of what small town store has them. It takes a bit to wrap your head around the concept, but the online shopper doesn’t really care where your store actually is as long as you can get the product they want delivered to them. If you are a traditional store that wants to sell your products online, instead of trying to sell things online that you can not move in your store, it is going to be vital to your success to offer your products from the top down. Your website needs to promote your products in an appealing way. A good SEO will be able to match up the hottest searches performed and help you target your campaign by researching products. Again, just having a cool website is not enough. You are going to need to build that website in a Search Friendly manner. Lets use the shoes one more time. Say you put a great picture of the latest shoe on your website. It is the very one that kids across the country would go get a job for. But if all you have is a picture, the Search Spider cant read your picture. It is not human. It searches for text. Text in the form of Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) and in the form of content on your page. These are spider food. The Search Spider searches your site, following your linking structure and recording what it finds then it takes it back to the Search Engine Database. The Search Engine then runs that data through its algorithm to determine what searches your might be relevant to your site and how relevant your data is compared to other websites it has recorded. Whats it all mean? The world has changed my friend. Changed in ways we could not predict. If we had computers in the eighteen hundreds, they would have predicted that every city in America would now be twenty feet deep in horse manure. Your website is proof that you are trying to be a player in the new way of doing business. But now you have to index your site in the way that can be found by the Search Engines, your products can be identified and produced as relevant when a search is done. Rather than showing a picture of your product and writing a caption under it that says something like This is a very popular item this year, use the terms that someone would type in when they are looking for this exact product. This will more than likely take a little more time and effort but your persistence and diligence will pay off in the end result! The other thing that takes some understanding and patience is to know that the Search Spider does not live on your website. He has other places to go too. You have to allow him time to get around to checking out your changes. Dont be afraid to do some investigative work on your own. Check out your competition. See how they describe the products on their site. A little homework on your part will also help you get an understanding of what youre up against. If you are using Pay Per Click advertising they will provide Keyword Suggestion Tools. But please use caution. These tools are really focusing on getting you to pay to show up in as many searches as they can. Although that might sound like exactly what you want too, the truth is that aside from being expensive, if your site does not exactly match to what the searcher is looking for, you are wasting money. A Search Optimization Service will be help you focus your energy and resources in the areas that will get you more conversions because you will be showing up for the most relevant searches all the time rather than just when you can afford Pay Per Click advertising. On Page Optimization Made Simple
Friday, August 21st, 2009| Executive SEO Training | Corporate SEO | Dallas SEO |
|
The practice of search engine optimization can often seem complicated and larger than life. But the truth about SEO is that it is really comprised of two general areas. These areas are onpage optimization and off-page optimization. Successful web sites understand the differences between these two areas and apply the best in class techniques for each. Any powerful SEO strategy is a combination of having the write strategy and applying necessary elements of that strategy in the right order. The same can be said for search engine optimization. To win at the game of SEO, you need to be willing to focus on onpage optimization before off-page optimization. This means that you are concentrating your efforts on navigation, web site architecture, and Meta tags. Beginning with on-page optimization ensures long-term success. When considering on-page optimization, most people like to start with URLs. It is true that having your keyword in a domain name can help, but it’s not all you should be focused on. This is more of a factor in rankings for Yahoo and MSN versus Google. Google weighs nearly 200 factors when evaluating your web site and many of them are off page related. Regardless, consider URLs that include part or all of your keyword phrase. One of the best ways to introduce a keyword in your URL is with the help of sub-domains. Using a sub-domain strategy is not only effective, but simple to implement. Essentially what you are doing is placing your keyword before your domain name. This can often be set up by a programmer or your host. An example of a sub-domain that includes your keyword would look something this: keywordphrase.yoursite.com where keyword is the keyword you are trying to optimize for and yoursite refers to your domain name. If you’re aren’t quite sold on a sub-domain strategy, there is an alternative. The good news is that the alternative is just as effective and just as easy to implement. Essentially you want to follow the same strategy of determining which keywords you want to promote. After doing so all you need to do is set up a separate page on your site. It would look something like www.yoursite.com/keyword where keyword is the keyword phrase you are promoting and yoursite is your domain name. This promotes your keyword and keeps it close to your home page. After optimizing your URL, its time to focus on other on page attributes. One of the most important is page load time. This is a function of the overall size of your page, scripts, use of CSS, etc. and requires a good deal of experience from a programming perspective. The best bet is to have someone with SEO experience review your pages to make sure that you are applying SEO best practices from an on page perspective. Once you have gone through all of the necessary on page optimization attributes associated with a high ranking web site, you should\its time to focus on off page optimization. Off page optimization is really a function of how the search engines see your site and how other web pages link to your own site. Off page optimization is often equated to link building as building external links to your site is at the core of search engine optimization. Begin your SEO efforts by focusing on on-page optimization. This creates a very strong foundation that you can build on for years to come. After that foundation is set, focus on off-page optimization techniques. These techniques can vary over time but should always include some type of link building effort. As you create more inbound links, your search engine results will continually improve. About the Author:

Are Submission Web Sites Hurting Your Web Site Ranking?
Monday, August 10th, 2009| Executive SEO Training | Corporate SEO | Dallas SEO |

Wondering how you might be able to get ranked on top for a specific keyword? Thinking there may be a short cut or two? Recently I had the opportunity to work with a client who was also in search of ways to automate much of the search engine optimization process. I started the assignment working with him to improve his website design and architecture. Soon there after, we focused on building links to his site. Off page optimization is all about building your web site’s popularity. Google measures this by applying their algorithm and rewarding you with a Google Page Rank. Once your page has Google PR, it can easily be compared with other pages in the same genre. This is especially true with new sites or pages that have very little history associated with them. The very first thing to do is to evaluate a web site for the criteria that would make it easy to spider. Search engines spider need to access quality content to better classify each page on the web. After applying navigation that allows users to easily find content and search engine spiders to categorize content properly, its time to identify effective link building strategies. A popular strategy that is used by many SEO professionals is found in directory submissions. The proper directories can provide one way links that can have a significantly positive impact on the search engine rankings for any web site or blog. For the web site I was recently working on I decided to find a submission service that would take the process of manual submission off the table. I believed that the auto submission would be as effective but require much less effort. Within 48 hours of the site being submitted, the web sites ranking for targeted keyword terms dropped by more than 62 percent. I couldn’t believe what a detrimental affect the automated submission service had on this particular web site. Could this be coincidence or is there proof of the damaging effects of automated submission? During this time period, my team was not focused on any other type of link building effort. Because the impact on search engine rankings was so immediate and so detrimental, I can only conclude that it was directly caused by the directory submission activity. I suppose there really are no shortcuts to SEO success. Is automatic directory submission a thing of the past? Is it to good to be true? If you based your opinion on my recent experience I would say yes. Using the auto submission process had a very negative impact on search engine rankings for the site I was working on. Even though I can’t verify the impact of all services I assume that you should think twice before assuming that a submission service is going to save you time or give you better results. Bing Search Engine Optimization Made Easy
Monday, July 27th, 2009| Executive SEO Training | Corporate SEO | Dallas SEO |

If you follow search engine marketing then no doubt you’ve been hearing about Microsoft’s latest search engine release called Bing. Bing promises a new user experience for those surfing the web. This is a pretty necessary rework of Microsoft’s previous search in an effort to compete with both Google and Yahoo. Today, there is more press coverage that is covering this launch as Microsoft is seeking to make radical changes to their business model. You might be asking yourself, what does Bing mean for my website and how can I ensure that my web site is found? I have been receiving a number of inquiries from individuals who are concerned that their website will lose ranking based on this new search. I have begun to research Bing as a search engine and found out that much of it’s methodology for ranking is similar to that of Google. One of the best ways to reverse engineer a given search engine is to do a study of the top ranked website for a specific term. Based on some research that I’ve done and the work of others in the SEO community, it’s pretty clear that this type of analysis provides clues of which criteria weigh most heavily in Bing’s search algorithm. No one will be all that surprised to learn that older domains perform better than newer websites and in bound linking plays a major role in results. It appears as though Microsoft’s Bing search engine is using many of the same ranking factors as other popular search engines. This is good news simply because optimization of web sites take time and trying to optimize for one search engine over another may provide very mixed results. Bing likes in bound links and that is pretty consistent regardless of which search engine you are trying to improve your organic results for. By know you know the importance of improving your web site’s organic search results. This creates more awareness, traffic, and positive results. Perhaps you know about the importance of organic rankings but don’t have the resources to move your site towards the top of the search results. Don’t worry, begin small and focus on building links to your site. Once you do, you can see positive improvements in your rankings on Bing and other search results. Another area of importance is content. Search engines like Bing look for fresh, relevant content. You want to make sure that your content is valuable to browsers and web site visitors but that it is also relevant and up to date. Consider adding a revising content on a regular basis. This helps you succeed in generating inbound links and quality scores from search engine algorithms. Focus on search engine optimization basics if you want to improve your website’s rankings. Not only will this have a positive impact on your Bing ranking for certain keywords but it will also have a positive impact on your site’s ranking across most major search engines. Fundamental principles like quality content and easily crawled web sites have a positive impact that can last for a very long time. About the Author:
